This is a true cottage. If you know what to expect, you will not be disappointed. We stayed in the Rose Cottage, which doesn't have the large screen porch, it has a separate bedroom in its place, and a 2nd very small bathroom. So traveling with my husband and two teenage sons, this worked out great. It would not have worked in the other cottages, which are all one "suite-style" room and bathroom. The room was very clean and very well stocked. They provide you with 2 bikes, beach chairs and shelling tools. There is onsite laundry but it is not in the cottages. The ground are nice, with a pool and grill for guest use. The walk to the beach is not very far, a long city block. Ms. Gloria is super nice and will send you any bits of information you need before heading down. (Like the toll to get on the island is $6). What I especially liked, it that there were not kids running everywhere. The cottages are perfect for a couple. Between the sofa bed and an air mattress, the boys were taken care of. They didn't care where they were sleeping as long as they were near the beach and fishing. Only downside, the internet reception is slow. But if you go outside on the big deck, you can get connected. I had to have access at one point and it was difficult. Cell Service and Internet on the whole island is sporadic at best. But, your at the beach so disconnect for a while!
I have been in the hotel business for 20+ years. This is not a condo or inn. If you are looking for full service, this is not it. This is truly a cottage. It reminds me of traveling with my parents to Florida before the condo explosion.
If you consider yourself a high maintenance traveler, this is not for you. If you are looking for a laid back, beach trip, The Palms of Sanibel is for you! Can't wait to go back with just my husband! We will definitely stay here again.
I stayed at the Palms of Sanibel with my friend and we really enjoyed our stay. The grounds are well maintained and it was very quiet. The cottages have a screened porch, living room, full kitchen, bathroom and separate sleeping area. The furniture, including beds were very comfortable. There is WiFi and cable available. While staying at the cottages, we used the bikes from the porch and rode all over Sanibel, including Ding Darling State Park. We also took advantage of the outdoor grill and grilled some steaks we got from the grocery store on Sanibel. You are not right on the beach with these cottages, but it is a walk/bike ride or car ride away. Personally I didn't mind not being right on the beach, because it allowed for a quiet and peaceful stay in the cottages. If I am back on Sanibel, this will be my stay of choice.
Lovely large cottage with kitchen and dining bar, full refrigerator and comfortable bed. Screened in porch and a communal pool, bikes are free of charge. The Lighthouse and beach are a short ride away. Very clean, private and comfortable. And right next door is the best breakfast on the island at the Lighthouse Cafe with the Pinocchio Ice Cream shop at your doorstep.
Upon entering the property a peaceful energy enveloped both my husband and I. Our stay at The Palms of Sanibel was in celebration of our 25th wedding anniversary. It wa a lovely setting to celebrate this special memory. The accommodations were lovely and very "bed and breakfast" like. You get an immediate sense of family there as the owners are so gracious and accommodating. They were alo very helpful with restaurant suggestions including the very famous Lighthouse Cafe for scrumptious breakfasts and Pinocchio's for delicious ice cream treats, both of which were in walking distance to The Palms. My husband and I both agree that we have found a hidden jewel on the island of Sanibel and cannot wait to return there in the very near future!!
