Millgate Cottage is a dream of a small holiday rental. Well situated for all that the wonderful town of Conwy has to offer. A 2 minute walk to the train station where you can catch trains to explore further afield, such as Bangor, Holyhead, Chester or simply change at the next stop for Llandudno. Lots of interesting places to explore on foot - Conwy Hill, Conwy Castle, Plas Mawr, along the quayside and to the marina. Try the coastal walk from the cottage around the Great Orme, then catch the bus or train back from Llandudno. Everyone is so friendly and helpful in this area. The cottage itself is even nicer than it appears in the photographs. It is beautifully designed, lovely furnishings and extremely clean and well decorated. Where else can you have a shower whilst looking out on to the old town walls? The new owner Phillip goes out of his way to make you feel at home and during our stay we had tasteful Christmas decorations, door wreath and seasonal lights throughout the cottage. The welcome tray was very enjoyable with mulled wine and locally baked mince pies. Do try the freshly fried cod at the Fisherman chip shop off the main street at the bottom of the town (off the quay) and the hot pork pies from the bakers opposit that chip shop. Next door to Millgate Cottage is a small health and beauty salon. A massage or reflexology session is a great holiday treat (contact - riverside-therapies.com) and I could potter back 'home' in my slippers. We cannot believe our good fortune at finding this holday let and did not want to leave! It was an excellent find and we will be back!!
Our first plus point for the property goes to its accessibility from Conwy train station - literally 2 minutes walk. Second, though Conwy is not a very big town, property is very close to town center which made our stay very comfortable as we could go to a nearby Spar even at 9 pm. And third, which I as a photographer liked the most, its just 10 meters away from the famous Conwy walls. This provided me ample opportunities to cover beauty of this old town from multiple angles and during all times of the day. The property itself is not very spacious but good enough for 2 families on a short stay. The owner, a very kind and humble person, visited us in person and gave us a few recommendations around some other nearby tourist attractions. A bus stand is just 3 minutes walk, connecting you to other attractions like Llandudno and Llanberis and tourist information center is next door. We couldn't ask for more, simply 5 stars!!!
The cottage is well positioned for all that Conwy has to offer. It backs on to a closed off section of the old town wall just yards from the Castle, visitor centre and the tourist information office. Although small the cottage is well laid out and has everything you need when on holiday. The bedrooms are both a good size as is the bathroom which has an excellent shower and lovely views of the hills. Phillip the owner popped in on our first day to explain where everything was and how stuff worked and there is also a very detailed guide to the cottage and area. The little touches such as fresh flowers, tea, coffee, milk and cake were really nice. Everything in Conwy is within a short walk of the cottage, the quay and castle are well worth visiting. Further afield the Great Orme gives spectacular views and Snowdon is only a half hour drive away. Don't be put off by the railway being so close you can hardly hear the trains as they are the other side of the 2m thick town wall and the road is not that busy, the noisiest thing in town are the gulls!
