Guest Standards
Respect the Property. Respect the Host. Respect the Community.
A great stay is a shared responsibility.
Every Connecting Rentals property represents someone's home, investment, or livelihood. Whether you're staying for a weekend, a season, or several months, we ask every guest to treat the property with the same care, consideration, and respect they would expect for their own home.
Our Guest Standards are designed to help create better experiences for everyone—guests, hosts, property managers, neighbors, and the communities where our properties are located.
Be a Respectful Guest
We believe most guests already understand what it means to be respectful. These standards simply establish the expectations that apply to every Connecting Rentals stay.
Treat the Property With Care
Use the property, furnishings, appliances, equipment, and amenities responsibly.
Guests are expected to:
- Keep the property reasonably clean and orderly during their stay.
- Use furnishings, appliances, equipment, and amenities for their intended purposes.
- Take reasonable precautions to prevent damage.
- Follow any property-specific instructions provided by the host.
- Report significant damage, malfunctions, or maintenance concerns promptly.
Normal wear and tear happens. Accidents can happen, too. What matters is communicating honestly and taking reasonable care of the property.
Respect House Rules
Every property is different. Hosts may establish reasonable rules based on the property, its location, local requirements, or the needs of neighboring residents.
Guests are expected to read and follow the house rules provided for their reservation.
These may address matters such as:
- Occupancy and approved guests.
- Pets.
- Smoking or vaping.
- Parking.
- Noise.
- Fires and outdoor areas.
- Use of amenities.
- Check-in and check-out procedures.
If you're unsure about a rule, ask your host before making assumptions.
Respect Neighbors and the Community
A vacation or seasonal rental is part of a larger community.
Guests should be considerate of neighbors and local residents by avoiding excessive noise, disruptive behavior, trespassing, or other conduct that interferes with the peaceful enjoyment of surrounding properties.
Being a good guest doesn't end at the property line.
Be Honest About Your Reservation
Reservations should accurately reflect who will be staying at the property and how the property will be used.
Guests should not:
- Exceed the approved occupancy.
- Substitute or add guests without authorization when approval is required.
- Hold unauthorized parties or events.
- Use a property for purposes that are inconsistent with the listing or house rules.
- Misrepresent the circumstances of their stay.
If your plans change, communicate with your host before making arrangements that could affect the reservation.
Respect Your Host's Time
Vacation rentals are different from hotels. While hosts strive to provide excellent service, many are individuals, families, or small businesses rather than 24-hour front desk staff. Whenever possible, communicate during reasonable daytime hours and reserve after-hours contact for genuine emergencies. For more information, please see our Respectful Communication guidelines.
Communicate When Something Goes Wrong
Problems are much easier to resolve when they're reported promptly.
If something isn't working properly, something has been damaged, or you encounter an issue with the property, notify your host or Connecting Rentals as soon as reasonably possible.
Early communication gives everyone an opportunity to resolve the issue before it becomes something larger.
Leave the Property With Care
At the end of your stay, guests should leave the property in substantially the condition in which they found it, taking into account normal use and reasonable wear and tear.
Before departure, guests should:
- Follow the property's check-out instructions.
- Remove personal belongings.
- Dispose of trash as instructed.
- Return furniture or equipment to its appropriate location when requested.
- Secure the property as instructed.
- Report any accidental damage or significant issue that occurred during the stay.
A thoughtful departure makes the next guest's arrival better—and makes hosting a better experience for everyone.
Respect Goes Both Ways
Connecting Rentals believes that respectful stays begin with mutual respect.
Hosts are expected to provide accurate listings, maintain their properties appropriately, honor reservations, communicate professionally, and make reasonable efforts to resolve issues when they arise.
Guests are expected to treat the property, host, neighbors, and community with the same consideration they would hope to receive themselves.
Mutual respect creates better experiences, stronger relationships, and more enjoyable stays for everyone.
When Standards Aren't Met
Most stays are completed without problems. When an issue does arise, Connecting Rentals may review the circumstances and take appropriate action based on the nature and severity of the situation.
Depending on the circumstances, this may include communicating with the guest, requiring corrective action, addressing damage or additional costs, restricting future reservations, suspending accounts, or taking other action permitted under our Terms of Service and applicable policies.
Our goal is not to penalize honest mistakes.
Our goal is to protect properties, support responsible hosts, and maintain a marketplace where guests and hosts can trust one another.
Be the Guest You'd Want in Your Home
The best guests aren't simply careful with a property.
They communicate.
They follow the rules.
They respect their host's time.
They respect the neighborhood.
They take responsibility when something goes wrong.
That's the standard we're building at Connecting Rentals.
Respect the property. Respect the host. Respect the community.
